I am a senior executive and expert communicator with over 25 years’ experience in the environment and sustainability sector, primarily focused on providing business leaders with top-quality market intelligence, policy insight briefings and bespoke research and consulting studies to help identify and evaluate new opportunities and strategic directions.

In the early stages of my career, I worked for the ENDS Report (Haymarket Media) — a leading B2B publication for the environmental industry —where I was responsible for curating news analysis and market reports serving environmental consultancy business leaders and practitioners (2001-2008).

In 2008, I cofounded a specialist online publishing and research company Environment Analyst (www.environment-analyst.com), with a mission to connect the environmental, ESG & professional services community (including their investors, clients and stakeholders), providing market intelligence to help them deliver a more sustainable future.

Having steered the company (and it’s ~10-15 staff over the years) through a laser focus on high quality editorial and advisory outputs and strong client relationship development, and with a collaborative and empathetic leadership style, I was instrumental in the design and development of EA’s flagship and highly respected annual business summits, its UK & global environmental consulting market assessment reports and competitor profiles, as well as managing bespoke research & advisory projects and contributing to industry working group meetings.

In 2022/23, I led the development and launch of a new industry data stream, benchmark report and advisory arm for EA, assessing progress and best practice in the net zero, decarbonisation and ESG impactagenda amongst the leading consultancy firms.

This has all given me have a deep appreciation of the market growth drivers, business challenges, and best practices for environmental consultancies and similar organisations as they strive for purposeful development, and to stand out in a crowded marketplace, differentiate their brand and provide quality services to their clients. At the same time, I am an advocate for alternative strategies to the ‘growth at all costs’ model, prioritising planetary, community and well-being, and regenerative and degrowth models.

I am adept at drawing together diverse information sources to get to the heart of complex issues, from business strategy to environmental policy & impacts, to sustainability & ESG leadership. With a strong focus on quality research and data-led outputs, and as an excellent communicator and storyteller, I distil complex information into clear and precise insight to help business leaders and their clients, investors and stakeholder communities with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions, take action and position for success in the transition economy.

Expert stakeholder & B2B comms:

  • Develop effective communications and stakeholder engagement strategies to communicate your brand value, project objectives and/or expert profile – tailored to suite the clients/stakeholders

  • Effectively communicate on topical issues and thought leadership through staff interviews, training, blogs, articles, white papers, reports and social media

  • Effectively communicate values, strategy, ethics and ESG goals and project plans to all stakeholders

  • Delivery of tightly written/edited communications incl. storytelling, business plans, RFP bids, environmental and sustainability policies, impact reports, annual reports, website content, presentations, etc

  • Identify realistic and measurable goals for improving social and environmental impacts and actions, and how best to measure and disclose to stakeholders

Business & ESG strategy:

  • Gain detailed insight into complex issues, best practice or new business ideas through competitor/client benchmark analysis and market research, and strategic BD recommendations

  • Understand a changing market or regulatory landscape and get to grips with emerging opportunities and disruptors that will really have an impact on your business, clients and stakeholders

  • Locate & evaluate new business partners/strategic M&A targets that are aligned to your business strategy, values and culture

  • Determine clever and creative ways of integrating sustainability & ESG into your organisation’s purpose, strategy and comms
